any tips for taking my little one fishing

I'm thinking about taking my 5-year-old out for a fishing trip soon. I don't have much experience myself, but it seems like it could be a great bonding experience. I saw some simple kids' rods at a local store and was wondering if those are a good idea for beginners. I want something easy to use that will make it fun for my kid. Any advice on bait or just overall approach for a first outing?

I wouldn't get a kids rod. A spincast with a better rod will last him a while and you'll be able to use it as well if he doesn't take to it.

Make sure he wears a life jacket as well. It happens
