What's one thing about hunting that the general public completely misunderstands? I'll go first: people think we waste meat. The reality is that most hunters I know use everything and eat better than anyone buying factory-farmed meat.

Your turn, what needs to be cleared up?

I like this thread, Alan. Lots of people think we waste meat or just shoot for fun, but I see respect for wildlife every day.

Exactly this. The respect piece gets missed completely. Time, restraint and responsibility never make the headlines but that’s the reality for most hunters.

People think getting shots is easy. I hike, scout and spend days earning good chances out there.
That’s a big one. Folks see the shot, not the miles, the empty sits or the discipline it takes to pass bad opportunities and earn the right one.

Some of my best memories come from sitting in a duck blind, or on a rock / stump, in the predawn darkness, waiting for the world to wake up around me.... I've never killed anything I didn't a bit of remorse over....
